Umberta Telfener, Professor in the Post Graduate School of Health and Psychology at Università La Sapienza in Rome, Italy

I am a clinical psychologist and utilize the systemic frame in my work and life. I teach at the Post Graduate School of Health and Psychology at Università La Sapienza in Rome, Italy. I am interested in epistemology and complexity, therefore in differences, uncertainty, novelty and disorder.  I published, under Heinz von Foerster’s supervision, an epistemological dictionary (Bollati Boringhieri 2003) dealing with these subjects.

As to clinical work, I am in private practice in Rome and frequently supervise teams within public health structures. I am interested in how we enter into new contexts (a book entitled APPRENDERE I CONTESTI will soon be in print) and face the challenge of working with migrants. Other interests include orthopedic and evolutionary interventions both in psychotherapy and social interventions and the analysis of clinically undesirable outcomes (on which I wrote a book with Marco Bianciardi , GETTING SICK FROM PSYCHOTHERAPY, in 1995). I love long walks, pilates and cinema.
