A. Ray, Ph.D., is a System Theorist and Marriage and Family Therapist. Professor
of Family System Theory in the Marriage and Therapy Program, at The University
of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM), Dr Ray is a Senior Research Fellow and former
Director of the Mental Research Institute (MRI) in Palo Alto, California, and
founding director of the Don D. Jackson Archive of Systemic Literature. An
expert in Cybernetics and System Theory applied in understanding human behavior,
and in Interaction Focused/Systemic Therapy, he conducts training across North
and Central America, Europe, Africa, and the Far East on systemic theory and
brief therapy, as well on the contributions to communication theory and therapy
of Don Jackson, Gregory Bateson, and the MRI Brief Therapy team – John Weakland,
Paul Watzlawick & Richard Fisch. He is author/editor of numerous articles
